Focus
OUR FOCUS:
At the Animal Hospital Design Group we recognize that while you wish to improve your practice, you have little time to devote to the construction of a new facility, to add to your existing building or to manage a remodel. That is why our primary focus is to make the design and construction process as seamless as possible so you and your staff can continue to concentrate on what you do best – practice veterinary medicine. We take control of the project, involve you in the decisions critical to your new facility and we deal with the details.
Here’s a testimonial from one of Dr. Ibsen’s clients:
To Whom It May Concern:
“Al Ibsen was my architect consultant and owner’s representative for the building of MECA (Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals and Referral Services). He basically took care of every aspect of my building project from day one. I did nothing but approve the plans and any changes that were needed. He got approvals for zoning, permits and made sure we got the best and most profitable contractors and designers and made sure they did their job. He watched over the project so that all I needed to do was do what I do best, which was organize my practice and hire my staff. I then moved in to the most perfect building that I could ever imagine without a single headache. I have heard nightmare’s about building a practice from friends; however, I never experienced any of these things during the entire project. I cannot believe how smoothly the project went and I want to highly recommend with no hesitations, Al Ibsen as owner’s representative and architect consultant.”

And here is how we focus on making the process seamless for you:
- DECISION MAKING
- Dr. Ibsen will “join your staff” during the entire process and be your team leader. We know of no other design or construction firm that provides this service.
- TRENDS
- The trends in veterinary medicine should be considered in the design of your new facility. Dr. Ibsen has 40 years of experience in small animal medicine as a practitioner and owner of an AAHA hospital. His experience will be invaluable to you as you explore the direction of the profession as it relates to the design of your facility.
- FINANCES
- The AHDG is very aware of the economics of your profession. We will design your hospital to meet your needs and fit your budget. Our fee will be fixed after the scope of the project is completed. We do not charge a percentage of the cost of construction.
- We have links to the financial industry and we can be of help in that process also.
- MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
- Your hospital design must be built around the medical equipment that you choose. Dr. Ibsen has 10 years of experience working in animal hospital design and assisting practitioners with their equipment choices. He is very familiar with vendor’s prices and quality of materials. This will make your job much easier.
- APPEARANCE
- Your hospital is your face to the world. It tells your story to your clients, your staff and your community, so it must be inspirational. Patrick McGowan works with you collaboratively to ensure that one of the greatest investments of your life is truly a reflection of your standards.
- FLOOR PLAN EFFICIENCY
- We strive for a design that will allow you to get the greatest amount of work done in the least amount of time.
- ENERGY EFFICIENCY
- Energy costs are significant and you pay them for the lifetime of the practice. The AHDG will make every attempt to keep your energy costs as low as possible.
- AHDG will employ “green” concepts wherever they are practical in your facility.
- DURABILITY
- The AHDG will choose materials that are long lasting and low maintenance. This will reduce your maintenance cost and replacement cost.
- LABOR & MAINTENANCE
- Labor costs are 25% of your hospital expenses. The AHDG will incorporate materials and methods to hold down the labor cost for routine care and maintenance as is economically feasible.
- MECHANICALS (HVAC, ELECTRICAL & PLUMBING)
- The mechanicals of your building are the “working tools” of your hospital much the same way your lab and surgical equipment are to your practice.
- Mike Hein, Hein Engineering, has an extensive level of experience providing expertise in plumbing, heating, air conditioning and electrical concept development, design and construction supervision. Mike has been involved in the design and construction of over 150 animal healthcare facilities over the past twenty years. He has been a nationally recognized speaker at Western States, NAVC, Central States Veterinary Conference, AAHA and Veterinary Economics Conferences.
Our focus on these project components allows you to concentrate on your practice, knowing that experienced, dedicated professionals are working in your best interest. The Animal Hospital Design Group is leading the design and construction of your new facility while you continue on with a successful practice. And together, we are building a stronger future for your business.
